Independance Day!

Today a DHL guy came to our door.  I was not looking for anything because the passport is not even expected until Thursday.  It was the Power of Attorney for Grace.  This piece of paper has had quite a wild ride!  It went from Attorney's office in Kampala to a small town, Nebbi, to be signed by George (the day before he went to heaven).  It was sent back to Attorney Joe in Kampala and then over the big pond, to Michigan.
We see this defining piece of paper as a sign of a wonderful struggle.  It has touched the hands of so many that we can not thank in this world.  God has given George the reward that is deserving of such a helper.  His small signature means so much to us.  It gives Grace the opportunity to bloom and grow.
He rushed it back to Joe not knowing why he was so anxious but did so with a Godly heart.

We proudly displayed it on the refrigerator for an hour during lunch.  Brian suggested that we put it in the safe since we can not duplicate such a piece of paper.  (Enough of the free display!  We all had a chance to look at it, right?)
We had a sermon yesterday about what do you hold so strongly in this world that you would rush back into the burning house to save.  Allen (our 11 year old son) asked if I would save that.  I replied that I would just walk out of the house and never look back.  He raised his eyebrows, looking surprised.
I said because the safe will still be standing if the house burns down.
The fine print...
At the bottom of the Power of Attorney there is a date.
July 4, 2011
Grace received her independence the same day we celebrated it here in the USA.  Although, it was without any celebration or pomp and circumstance.  She had no idea she became a part of our family and will take a big place in our lives.
That is freedom.

My favorite quote is this:
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." -Jim Elliot
